EFCC accuses 202 INEC officials for fraud

In a recent statement issued on Wednesday, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) confirmed the accusation of 202 of its officials.
These officials allegedly partook from the purported N23billion bribery allegation facilitated by the former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, during the 2015 general elections.

According to INEC, the officials who were based in 14 states including (Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Delta and Gombe States) were accused of certain infractions.
The electoral body stated that it acted following the report received from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) two months ago.
“The Commission subsequently queried and invited them (affected staff) to appear before an administrative panel.
“The final report of the investigation into the matter will be considered by the Commission at its meeting next week.”
INEC also added that it received report on the December 10, 2016, Rivers State Legislative Rerun Elections. The statement stated that 29 of its officials were indicted for misconducts during the rerun elections last year in the state.
The commission in an apparent response to the misconducts of its officials also redeployed all its directing officials, administrative secretary and heads of departments out of Rivers State.
“29 Staff were recommended for disciplinary action, and their cases are currently being handled by the Commission’s Disciplinary Committee,” the electoral commission stated.
